Best Places To Eat As A Student In Manchester

September 6, 2017

Manchester is a vibrant and popular student city. Each year thousands of international students choose to study in Manchester and for good reason. It has a large local student population, is full of culture and history, has a multicultural population, and has so many fantastic things to see and do.

But one of the best things about studying in Manchester is the food. Manchester is filled with so much choice, a range of flavours and all different types of restaurants, cafes and independent places to try.

Obviously, as a student, money can be an issue. Mainly that there’s not a lot left over when tuition fees, accommodation and books have been paid for! But you don’t have to worry about that in Manchester. There are so many affordable options when it comes to eating out. Here are some of the best places to eat as a student in Manchester.

This and That, Soap Street

Established in 1984, This and That is one of Manchester’s best loved curry houses and is halal. It’s tucked away in the Northern Quarter and serves up flavoursome food at really cheap prices. You can get three curries and rice for just £3.90! Plus, they have different curries each day so there’s a wide variety of choice. They serve up both vegetarian and meat curries to cater for all.

Chango’s Burrito Bar, Oxford Road

For those who love Mexican cuisine you can’t go wrong with Chango’s lunch deal. You get a burrito of your choice, nachos and a drink for just £4.95! And the food is amazing too. There’s nothing more to say about Chango’s except get down there for some tasty Mexican food.

Dive NQ, Tib Street

Dive NQ serves up great American food and can be found on Tib Street. The menu itself is pretty extensive but  relatively inexpensive. You can mix and match sliders for £9.50, get twelve chicken wings for £8, and loaded salads from £7. It’s worth having a look online at their social media as they regularly have special offers and discounts.

Rudy’s Neapolitan Pizza, Ancoats

Rudy’s has been voted one of the best pizza places in the world and yet all of their 14 inch pizzas are under £10! The atmosphere in here is great and is in the trendy and upcoming area of Ancoats. The earlier you go the better as they don’t take bookings and it does get quite busy.

La Vina, Deansgate

Just because you’re a student doesn’t mean you can’t go out to a nice restaurant. La Vina is a great tapas place on Deansgate and is the perfect place if you’re in the mood for something a little bit fancier. They offer 20% off if you sign up for one of their loyalty cards and have a 3 tapas & a drink for £9.99 Monday – Friday until 6.30pm.

Arndale Food Market

Arndale Food Market is filled with different stalls so if you can’t decide what to eat you can have a walk around for some inspiration. All the market stalls are reasonably priced and there’s a variety of different flavours and styles of foods on offer.

New Yorker, Portland Street

New Yorker diner serves up American street food that is all halal and thankfully won’t cost you much. You can get a delicious hot dog, fries and a soft drink for less than £6.50 as part of their meal deal and it’s much higher quality than something like McDonalds, so you can’t really complain. There’s a relaxed vibe about this place and it’s great to go after a long day of lectures or even at the weekend if you’re in the city centre.

Shoryu Ramen, Piccadilly Gardens

Not only do they offer ‘buy one bun and get one free’ every Monday but they’ve also recently started serving up their amazing Ganso Tonkotsu ramen for just £5 every Monday and Tuesday. And, if that wasn’t enough, they’ve also got 2-4-1 matcha sundaes on Sundays! Grab a friend and pay Shoryu a visit.

Discounts with an NUS Card

As a student, it’s recommended that you purchase an NUS Card. You can buy a 1 year card for just £12, a 2 year card for £22 or a 3 year card for only £32. This entitles you to a range of discounts at lots of restaurants. Here are just a few:
