History Since its founding in 1884, Ellesmere College has retained its individual student focus while promoting a family, community atmosphere. An incredibly friendly boarding school, 600 students from ages 7 to 18 are encouraged to try new things and explore their potential, part of the Colleges innovative and dynamic curriculum. We prepare students for their GCSEs, Pre-A-Levels, A-Levels and the International Baccalaureate as well as giving them the opportunity to enjoy a full and varied sports and social programme. Location & Facilities Standing in its own stunning grounds covering more than 50 hectares, the school is conveniently located near the small, historic town of Ellesmere, and is less than 100 kilometres from both of England’s second major cities, Manchester and Birmingham. This ideal location means students can benefit from the vast range of activities both cities have to offer whilst living and studying in a tranquil English country setting. The school boasts excellent facilities for sports, music and the arts. There is a fitness centre, two squash courts, six all-weather tennis courts, 25 metre swimming pool, golf course and numerous grass and all-weather pitches.
The school also has a lake and sailing club and a target shooting range. The Arts Centre has a number of music studios, gallery and a performing theatre with 200 seats. Academic Performance Ranked in the Top 20 British Schools offering the International Baccalaureate. Ellesmere College had another excellent academic year, which was demonstrated with outstanding performances from Sixth Form pupils in both International Baccalaureate and A Levels. Over 60% of all grades awarded were in the top A*-B grade with the girls raising that bar to nearly 70% of their grades published being in A*AB. 85% of students gained entry into their first choice universities including Oxford and Cambridge. GCSE grades were equally impressive with a bumper crop of A* grades.
Accommodation Ellesmere College provides a friendly and warm environment with family values at its heart. Students from many countries are all part of our boarding community, becoming fully involved in school life. Our modern accommodation provides a high quality, comfortable and secure environment for our students, with residential staff on site to tend to the students needs 24 hours a day. There is a close liaison between the boarding and teaching staff to ensure a continuity of care at all times. There are a variety of rooms within the boarding house, the majority of which are single and twin, with en-suite options. Wi-Fi internet connection is available throughout the school. Our students also have access to a common room and TV lounge, which offer a comfortable and safe environment in which students can relax. Co-curricular Activities At Ellesmere College we believe that school events and trips are vitally important in the all-round education of our students.
We regularly take advantage of the stunning backdrop that our local area provides with visits to nearby towns and cities, both for study and leisure. A large number of sports programmes and clubs are available so that all students can find something to suit their particular tastes. Whether joining in the fun during the summer in the swimming pool, or spending evenings participating in the Orchestra, Choir, Debating or Chess Clubs, the students benefit from the variety of activities on offer.
