It traces its history back to 1825 when Huddersfield Science and Mechanics Institute was founded. In 1992 it gained university status and established itself a higher-education institute of repute. Queensgate’s main campus is south-east of the town center of Huddersfield. Huddersfield is a historic market town in West Yorkshire, 310 km north of London and 16.6 km south of Bradford, the nearest town. It is the 10th largest city in the United Kingdom and has a total population of 146,234 with one of the highest number of listed buildings in the United Kingdom. The town is known as the birthplace of the rugby league and British Prime Ministers Harold Wilson and Herbert Asquith.

  • Huddersfield is practically home to the Rugby League – a town that invented sport in 1895 in a dispute over compensation to players. The John Smiths Stadium is now home to the Huddersfield Giants who, oddly enough, won the four Rugby League Championships in 1914.
