Overview of University of Hull

Kingston on Hull, a city in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England, is a public science university. The University College was founded as Hull in 1927. The main campus in Hull is the Hull York Medical School, a joint initiative with York University. Hull University Union is serving students. Brynmor Jones University Library was the place of employment for the poet Philip Larkin and for more than 30 years was the lead librarian. In conjunction with the University of Larkin the Philip Larkin Society is organizing commemorative events, including Larkin 25 festival.

The University was also attended by Andrew Motion, a poet-in-chief and former poet laureate. From 1978 to 1994, Lord Wilberforce was the University Chancellor. From 1994 to 2006 Robert Armstrong served as Chancellor. The chancellor in April 2006 was Virginia Bottomley. Today, its academic portfolio comprises more than 2,000 courses for 18,000 students in 6 faculty areas, including 50 disciplines in the arts and humanities, business, education, healthcare, scientific and social sciences.

Served by Humberside Airport and Hull Paragon Station, Hull is a well-connected city providing daily flights to mainland Europe and direct train travel to London (2.5 hours) and Manchester (2 hours).
