Overview of Liverpool John Moores University

Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) is a public research university in Liverpool, England. The University can trace its roots to the Liverpool Mechanics School of Arts, founded in 1823. This later combined into Liverpool Polytechnic. In 1992, following the Act of Parliament, Liverpool Polytechnic became the Liverpool John Moores University.

It is named after Sir John Moores, a local businessman and philanthropist who donated to the precursor organizations of the university. LJMU degree courses are created in collaboration with industry partners and, with work experience being an integral component of every course, university graduates are much sought after by employers.

Fun Facts
  • Liverpool City was established in 1207 when King John issued a Royal Charter written in Latin. Liverpool was once the "Second City of the Empire," and sometimes even London was eclipsed by trade.
  • Winter in Liverpool was so hot, tight under coats, and wearing gloves inside your student's house wasn't that great. Pay extra for heating and extra layers to wear? It's not a brainer.
