Founded in 1845 as Queen’s College Belfast, they became an independent university in 1908. Today, it’s ranked among the top 173 universities in the globe (QS World Rankings 2020) and a member of the Russell Group of UK Intensive Research Universities, combining excellence in study and education with a student-centred ethos.

The University has won the Queen’s Anniversary Prize for Higher and Further Education on five occasions, while the institution is the top 50 UK women’s employer and leading UK universities in addressing unequal representation of women in science and engineering.

Queen’s University is located in Belfast, the capital city of Northern Ireland which is part of the United Kingdom. Belfast has been described by international media as “Europe’s friendliest-and trendiest-regional city” and “one of today’s most trendy places to visit and stay.” Belfast has a population of nearly half a million people-a third of Northern Ireland’s population-and the city is easily accessible by air and served by two airports.   • Peace walls were built across Belfast at future flashpoints between nationalist and loyalist regions. The first peace lines were constructed in 1969. Some of these walls are famous tourist attractions. You can visit the walls where you can see the signatures of the Dalai Lama and former US President Clinton.
  • The Titanic was constructed in Belfast, and it was from the city's port that it set out on its ill-fated maiden journey.
