The Royal Institute of Technology, Salford, which opened in the year 1896, became an Advanced Technology Undergraduate College in 1956, and in 1967 was granted University status following a Robbins Higher Education Report. The University of Manchester, a university with public research, operates as a university in Salford, Greater Manchester.

According to the results of the national student survey, 83 percent of Salford graduates were pleased with their university time. In all fields of study, improvements were made with full satisfaction in the area of media, oil and machinery, nursing and social studies, and architectural design and technology.

The University of Salford is situated near the center of Manchester, in the north of England.
