For those interested in studying at this institution but who have not currently achieved the required TOEFL score, ELS offers you the opportunity to develop your language skills to the required level at our ELS center located on the campus of this university!  In addition, we focus heavily on giving you the necessary study skills for

successful study at the university of your choice. ELS students have full access to campus facilities for the duration of their ELS program!


University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) was founded in 1881 by the Sisters of Charity. It is known for its academic excellence, diversity and personal attention to just under 11,000¬†students from over 70 countries who call UIW home. Incarnate Word has a longstanding tradition of excellence in education taught by world-class professors who bring theoretical and practical applications to the classroom experience. With an average class size of 25 and a student-to-faculty ratio of 14:1, students are able to fully engage in their education. Students are given the opportunity to build relationships that extend beyond the classroom and provide a solid foundation for their future. UIW is a comprehensive¬†university offering over 80 undergraduate, graduate and doctoral programs of study in virtually every field, including professional programs in Optometry and Pharmacy. It is the largest Catholic university in the Southwest and the third-largest private university in Texas. San Antonio is the 7th-largest city in the U.S. The surrounding area is filled with a variety of tourist attractions including museums, parks, gardens, golf courses and a zoo, with scenic trails and areas to walk, run or enjoy an afternoon picnic. There are ten student dormitories available at UIW, including Agense/Sosa, Avoca, Clement, Dubuis, Hillside, Joeris, McComb’s, Sky View, St. Joseph’s and Watson Lofts. A variety of options are available. Co-ed and same-sex accommodations are available. Options include single, double and triple rooms, some with suite-style baths and double apartments. Rooms are furnished and the buildings offer many additional amenities.

Student life

University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) offers events and student programs providing educational, cultural, social and recreational programs for all UIW students. UESP provides students with leadership opportunities and direction to develop knowledge and skills necessary to be leaders. Through participation in the various student organizations, leadership workshops and seminars, students develop and practice leadership, team building and group problem solving while developing relationships that increase the meaning of the university experience. There are a variety of student organizations including academic, athletic, cultural, special interest groups and NCAA Division I sports.
