Strathclyde University is a public research university located in Glasgow, Scotland. Founded in 1796 as the Anderson Institute, Glasgow is the second-oldest university in the world, with the university receiving its Royal Charter in 1964 as the first technology university in the United Kingdom. It was named after Strathclyde’s historic kingdom. The University is well-known for its business school as well as its close relationship with industry. Strathclyde is one of only 55 universities in the world that is ‘ triple accredited ‘ by all three major institutions and has recently opened another campus near Delhi. Many courses, such as product design and innovation or international business in modern languages, have been specifically designed with industry experts. The engineering faculty is the largest in Scotland and has the largest electrical engineering and energy research facility in Europe.

Strathclyde University is situated in Glasgow, Scotland, a lively and cosmopolitan city with a thriving arts scene, cutting-edge music, and an exciting nightlife. It has over 20 museums and galleries and is host to the Scottish Opera, the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and the Scottish Royal Ballet. There is an impressive amount of green space in the city centre, with landscaped parks and gardens surrounding students in the 19th century, which provide a contrast to the urban pace of life. Students can also explore the highlands and islands just outside Glasgow, less than an hour away. A shuttle bus is available from John Anderson campus to Jordanhill campus.

Fun Facts
  • The male: female student ratio is 51:49 at Strathclyde, gender equality at its best!
  • The facilities at Strathclyde have been used by the Spanish men's football team, and during London 2012, Strath's gym was the only Scottish place for athletes to practice.
  • Much of Brad Pitt's World War Z film was shot in Glasgow's George Square, which is next to the campus. Some of the university's buildings can be seen in one of the scenes.
